Dear Parents,

Welcome back after the mid-term. I hope you enjoyed the break. Sincere thanks to all for your efforts for the Halloween Dress-up and for supporting the very successful Bake/Cake Sale.

  1. Following are arrangements for Thursday’s Allianz Sciath na Scol Finals in Pairc Uí Rinn. The boys play Crab Lane NS at 1pm and the girls play Upper Glanmire NS at 2pm. As per tradition, we are looking forward to supporting the teams in large numbers. As already communicated, Junior and Senior Infants will finish school at 12 noon. We intend to take all pupils from 1st to 6th to the game by bus. Of course, parents have the option of bringing Junior and Senior Infants to the matches themselves.

In school we will have a brief lunch/ toilet break at 11.30am and then board the buses for Pairc Uí Rinn. We intend to have all students in position, seated in the covered stand, by around 12.40 ready to cheer on our team in the pre-match introductions. The two teams will travel separately in a different bus.

Following both finals, there will be a medal presentation to all teams. We then return by bus to the school. We expect to be back in Shanbally by 3.30/3.45pm depending on traffic.

The cost per supporter is €5, €2 to cover entry to the matches and €3 towards the cost of the bus. Pupils may wear the school tracksuit and, of course, jackets, hats etc. which are necessary at this time of year. Pupils should only bring medicines such as inhalers etc. to the stadium. We will NOT be bringing school bags, lunches, spending money etc. We are granting a homework free night so there will be no need to collect school bags. We ask all parents to pack lunches in disposable packaging so that there will be no need to collect lunch boxes either!! This is to ensure a safe and smooth collection of children as they get off the buses.

Wishing our teams the very best of luck on this historic day for the school. Shanbally ABÚ.

  1. To the Parents of 2nd class: Caoimhe Corkery, a Primary Teacher Training student (and past pupil!), will commence a 5-week (Observation +Teaching Practice) block in 2nd class from Monday November 9th to Friday December 11th. She will be teaching the children during the school day for her last 3 weeks and will be undergoing Inspection by the Training College, Mary Immaculate College. Mrs. Ryan will continue to supervise and help in the planning for the class work. This follows her successful placement already in 5th class.  I’m sure the children will benefit from her efforts, and I ask you to encourage your child to continue to present a high standard of work as possible over the next 5 weeks.

  1. Our Parent’s Association hold their Bingo Night on Friday November 6th in the Ferry Boat Inn, Ringaskiddy at 9pm. Bingo Books @ €10 and there will also be a Raffle and complimentary finger food on the night. Any items for spot prizes and for hampers will be gratefully accepted by anybody on the Parents Association Committee. All proceeds of the Bingo Night will go towards funding more iPads for the school. This is an over 18s event.

  1. Due to collecting €5 towards the Sciath na Scol Finals, we will not be looking for Parents Contributions of €60 until next week. As promised we will detail how we intend to use the contribution within the school.

  1. Please note that we are holding an Open Night for Prospective Parents on Thursday November 12th between 6 and 8pm with the Principal’s Address at 7pm. We intend to have a number of our present 6th class pupils here on the night to help with the running of the event e.g. accompanying prospective parents around various classrooms. This event will be advertised in local media but we would appreciate if you could spread the word to family, friends, neighbours who might be interested.

Thank you.
